چکیده

The dynamic topology design is one of the important steps for the design of an overlay network. Traffic characteristic and volume, and behavior of nodes are the main issues that affect the performance of overlay networks, and have to be considered in designing a good topology. In this paper, we study the problem of designing the dynamic overlay topology based on estimating and predicting the Origin Destination OD pair flows. We consider the co operative behavior of the nodes in the network to minimize the overall cost of the network. The Kalman Filter prediction technique is used to predict the flows based on the data observations representing the number of packets on each link in the network. Then, we propose a heuristic to find nearoptimal overlay topologies with a reduced complexity. For a small-size network, we have applied the prediction technique including the heuristic to observe the change in the overlay topology with the change of the traffic demands between nodes. Results show that in most cases, the overlay topology is changed frequently for some changes of traffic demands. Also the far nodes in the network change the overlay topology frequently by adding and dropping overlay links between them.

TAC: A Topology-Aware Chord-based Peer-to-Peer Network

Among structured Peer-to-Peer systems, Chord has a general popularity due to its salient features like simplicity, high scalability, small path length with respect to network size, and flexibility on node join and departure. However, Chord doesn’t take into account the topology of underlying physical network when a new node is being added to the system, thus resulting in high routing late...

Dynamic Topology Reconfiguration Method for Overlay Networks using Users’ Community Information

In an overlay network, it is important to reconfigure its network topology appropriately according to change of traffic requirements from users. An efficient dynamic topology reconfiguration method called CBP (Cluster-Based Policy), which optimizes the trade-off between communication cost and topology reconfigure cost, has been proposed. However, CBP assumes that all traffic requirements from u...

A Systematic Method to Analyze Transport Networks: Considering Traffic Shifts

Current network modeling practices usually assess the network performance at specified time interval, i.e. every 5 or 10 years time horizon. Furthermore, they are usually based on partially predictable data, which are being generated through various stochastic procedures. In this research, a new quantitative based methodology which combines combinatorial optimization modeling and transportation...

H-Pastry: An Adaptive Multi-level Overlay Inter-Network

Overlay networks are widely used for locating and disseminating information, by means of custom routing and forwarding on top of the underlying network. Distributed Hash Table (DHT) based overlays provide flexibility coupled with good scalability and load balancing properties. However, this comes at the cost of inefficient routing, caused by the lack of adaptation to the underlying network: cur...
